Buy a Home in Chesapeake, Virginia

Thinking of buying a house in Chesapeake? You couldn’t have picked a better time to start your homes search. With its abundance of mom and pop businesses and the charming combination of farmland, waterways and sports teams that have produced widely-heralded athletes (Upton Brothers and David Wright ring a bell?), Chesapeake, Virginia is a real gem in the Hampton Roads crown.

So where are the best neighborhoods to live in Chesapeake? There are too many to name, so we’ll focus on the ones that seem to be attracting the most attention right now.

Hickory
Close to the North Carolina border this lovely little community has recently been discovered by developers and has high-end builders flocking to it. Edinburgh neighborhood development was the host of Home-A-Rama and while the initial homes were palatial, several more modest homes (with high end upgrades) have sprouted up around it. Large and small businesses have enjoyed the typical Chesapeake loyalty (live here, shop here). Outer banks travelers have made Edinburgh a key stop which helps keep this community vibrant.

Great Bridge
Think the only place you can by waterfront property is Virginia Beach? Think again. Great Bridge is intersected in more than one spot by the Intercoastal Waterway which provides sparkling water, cool breezes and deep water access if you happen to be a boating enthusiast. Fishermen of all skills can be seen dropping lines into the water hoping for a crab dinner.
Houses come in all sizes from condominiums and townhomes to mansions and often share the same schools. Shops range from chains with something for everyone to small shops where you know everyone. If you’re looking for a personal connection to your hometown, Great Bridge is a winner.

Deep Creek

Just as the name implies, this community is also intersected by waterways. New homes sit neatly in between older, more established homes creating neighborhoods of extraordinary diversity.
With the addition of the Grassfield school district connecting the Deep Creek communities with Great Bridge and Hickory this water-loving community is a rising star in Chesapeake.
